Stop Calling Yourself An Architect

Why?

Did you know, the term architect is a protected title in the UK under section 20 of the Architect's Act by the Architects Registration Board.

It's tempting to call yourself an architect, prior to qualifying and being registered with the ARB with all the studying and placement working we have to do under the traditional route, you may feel like you know enough to design and deliver a building safely.

However, it is not recommended, as you may be falsely advertising yourself as a practitioner with the skill and duty of care to execute the delivery and design of a building.

The Act gives the Architects Registration Board (ARB), the power to prosecute those who use the title when they have no right in order to protect the public from dishonest individuals who deliberately mislead people by calling themselves something they’re not.

This puts yourself, the client and those in and about the building at risk and danger potentially leading to prosecution should anything go haywire.
