How to: Deal with Archi stress

Dilemma

I’m constantly stressed what do I do?

Statistics indicate;

80% of students in higher education face stress
9 in 10 students experience stress

The Guardian

Main Stress Factors

  • Examinations

  • Deadlines

  • Returning to study from a long break

  • The pressure of combining paid work and study

  • Struggling to organise work

  • Failing to get on top of time management

  • Leaving assignments to the last minute

  • Out-of-control debts

How can I deal with some of these?

You are not alone

Alienating yourself from available resources provided by your university and faculty will only pull you further away from assistance. Family and friends still exist even though you aren’t around them as much

Get busy

take up a hobby. This can act as a buffer for relieving some stress and helps to give you a clean break from your uni-related tasks

Get Strategic

come up with a weekly timetable. You don’t need to buy a planner, the traditional pen and paperwork are just fine. Draw up a grid and your daily hours and map out your weekly tasks. You’ll feel a weight lifted off straight after

Eat Right

Junk food ain’t it. Ever heard of ‘you are what you eat'? It’s true if you're consuming junk, your mind will not be able to function in its best capacity as junk food does not contain the key nutrients and vitamins our systems require to optimally function. Ditch deliveroo for a balanced diet and you’ll feel much more brighter within. There are many cool recipes and step by steps online and on youtube.

Socialise

Get connected. Family and friends from home are great but it’s always good to meet others that are going through what you’re going through. Most universities have an architectural society, sign up and see what fun activities they’ve got going on, if you’re lucky you might find yourself on an impromptu study trip

Plan ahead

Stay ahead of the game. If you have been given a new assignment, map your delivery plan immediately. This will help you later on when everything starts getting intense and fast-paced. This doesn't have to be complex or done using a pc, a pad and paper never hurt anyone.

To conclude

Stress is something we all encounter, regardless of our quality of life. It is something we will continue to encounter as life progresses. Taking active steps to alleviate stress, will make heaps of changes and improvements as we continue to evolve. One small step is far better than no steps.
