The purpose of the design was to create a two-storey pavilion that can be dismantled and reused, and then recycled at the end of its life whilst embodying the brand.
An additional purpose of the pavilion was that it can be dismantled and reinstalled anywhere in the world. Both design studios involved were fixated on its ability to be recycled at the end of its lifespan.
Its structure can be assembled and dismantled in six days, and is made entirely from recyclable materials, with a steel frame and aluminium louvres.
The undulating organic form styled façade, is designed to resemble a theatre curtain. This is composed of thousands of tiny aluminium louvres, which clip on to the steel structure.
The functionality of these louvres allow the structure to self-shade in direct sunlight while maintaining outward views. It also provides the pavilion with a contrasting look in the evening, by filtering dappled light outside.
The use of these maintain the functionality of existing louvres that we as designers are familiar with but also allow for a three-dimensional form. juxtaposing wonderfully architectural functionality with sculptural composition.
